MelNet Priorities

MelNet Priorities

MelNet links professionals and organisations that span the continuum of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care and research. The nearly 1000 members include health promoters, nurses, general practitioners, pathologists, dermatologists, surgeons, oncologists, researchers and policy makers.

MelNet's current priorities for action, as recommended by the 2015 Melanoma Summit participants, include:

  • A stronger commitment to funding, resourcing and evaluating primary prevention in New Zealand
  • GP access to training and accreditation in dermatoscopy for the diagnosis of skin lesions
  • Finalisation and implementation by all DHBs of the Standards of Service Provision for Melanoma Patients in New Zealand – Provisional
  • Establishment of a translational research network involving clinicians and researchers
  • An increase in the number of clinical trials in which patients can be enrolled in New Zealand
  • Banning sunbeds in New Zealand.
