MelNet, the Melanoma Network of New Zealand Incorporated, was established in November 2008 when over 230 health professionals at the inaugural Melanoma Summit unanimously agreed to establish a network linking all health professionals working in melanoma.
Since then, MelNet has continued to consolidate its communication and coordination role, with highlights including:
- A well-developed website providing a resource and communication centre
- A key role in developing the Standards of Service Provision for Melanoma Patients in New Zealand – Provisional
- Hosting four highly successful national Melanoma Summits to share knowledge, promote best practice and identify priorities for action
- A key role in coordinating the development of the New Zealand Skin Cancer Primary Prevention and Early Detection Strategy
- Becoming a legal entity as an incorporated society & registered as a charity with the Charities Services
- An ever-increasing membership, now totalling well over 1000.
